Friday February 21 2020 - Day 3083 You're OK by me

Morrissey has given birth to a new song, and it's another beauty. Knockabout World is, in my opinion, a nod to Sir Cliff Richard's survival after being humiliated by the BBC in the most hideous of ways. The song begins with Morrissey singing the word 'Congratulations' in a very similar way to how Cliff sings it in his 1968 Eurovision Song Contest entry of the same name, and then Moz moves on to describe how the victim of the song (Cliff) has survived the kicking he has been given, and welcomes him to the Knockabout World (of which Morrissey is a fully paid-up member). The song also references: A) 'lips' - which I see as a nod to Cliff's song Lucky Lips; which was the influence (title wise) for Morrissey's own Lucky Lisp, and B) "handsome teeth" - Cliff does have incredibly handsome teeth.

The best bit of Knockabout World is when Morrissey wails, "You're Ok by me", which is exactly how most of us feel about him. The song has a 60s vibe to it, and sounds as though it would fit into a movie soundtrack. If Cilla were still alive, she would have covered Knockabout World....maybe.

Earlier today I took to the toilets of The Wrong Arms to leave Our Mozzer a message on the walls, thanking him for giving us Knockabout World. Here is our conversation:

Me: Thank you, thank you, thank you. Knockabout World is simply wonderful.

OM: No it isn't you sycophant. Born to Hang is a far superior work. You have, so far, heard the worst.

If the three songs we have heard so far are, "the worst", then I can't wait for the others on I Am Not A Dog On A Chain.

OM then, rather wittingly, and frightfully cruelly, added the following:

"On the upcoming tour please look out for signed, by myself, Caroline Flack calendar 20-21. Abruptly cut short but still full price."

Can you imagine if the real Morrissey ever tweeted such a thing? Delicious to even think it.

I wrote something witty back in reply about how I would want an 11/12ths refund if I had bought a Caroline Flack calendar, and got the following back from Moz:

"I am bored of you. Migrate to an urn." I guess it makes a change from the grave he instructed me to migrate to previously.

In other news, a former Morrissey fan called Sean O'Callaghan; who goes under the alias of Fat Gay Vegan, has this week published an article titled, Steven Patrick Morrissey and the Mysterious Case of the Disappearing UK Fanbase. I previously wrote about Sean back in April 2018 when he had responded to a Morrissey Central interview titled, There Is A Light That Must Be Switched On with his own article titled, We've Lost Our Boy, in which Sean explained why he had turned his back on Morrissey - I wrote about both the Morrissey interview and Sean's piece in my blog entry of Day 2407 on April 17 2018.

In Sean's latest piece, he states that ticket sales for the upcoming UK concerts at Leeds and Wembley Arenas have been poor, and that it is all down to Morrissey's, "right wing dalliances and openly offensive statements." There seems to be no reason for Sean's piece, other than as some sort of justification to himself that he was right to walk away....although, in fact, by writing the article it shows that he HASN'T walked away at all.

"You hiss and groan and you constantly moan but you don't ever go away, that's because, all you need is me. You roll your eyes up to the skies, mock horrified, but you're still here, cos all you need is me. There's so much destruction all over the world, and all you can do is complain about me. You bang your head against the wall and say you're sick of it all, yet you remain, because all you need is me."

FAT CUNT SEAN

Sean is, of course, wrong about why UK fans have deserted Morrissey. There have been NO"right wing dalliances", and there have been NO openly offensive statements. From the very beginning of Morrissey's career, the vast majority of his UK fans have been people from the left of the political spectrum - they saw Morrissey as one of their own: anti-Conservative Party, anti-Royalty and anti-establishment. Morrissey remains all of these things, but when he gave his support for the political party, For Britain, Morrissey's left-wing fans didn't like it. This is because the media have portrayed For Britain as not only right-wing, but as 'far-right extremists' and racists.

The truth is, For Britain isn't a right-wing party but because the media say they are, then they are, and because Morrissey has shown support, he is guilty by association. He hasn't actually had any"right wing dalliances", he's had a For Britain dalliance - there is a HUGE difference, but his left-wing fans, particularly those who voted to Remain in the EU, have been so manipulated by the press that they just can't see the truth. Most aren't even prepared to look. Sean is wrong that fans have turned against Morrissey because of right wing dalliances, they have actually turned against him because of perceived right wing dalliances.

As for offensive statements, a statement only becomes offensive if somebody chooses to take offence. When Morrissey makes statements about meat eaters being murderers, does Sean take offence? No, because it's a subject that he agrees with. When Morrissey has a go at right wing politicians such as Donald Trump or David Cameron or Theresa May, does Sean take offence? No, because again he agrees. When Morrissey dares to question immigration policies, suddenly Sean is offended because he doesn't share the view point - freedom of speech, but only if you agree with me.

The fan base may have dwindled, and with it ticket sales, but there are still many UK based Morrissey fans left, and those of us going to Leeds and Wembley next month won't give a second thought for all the fools who have turned their backs. It's their loss.

*Goes off singing* Congratulations, and jubilations, I want the knockabout world to know I'm happy as can be....

Yesterday morning I had a visitation. The Mozziah appeared from nowhere and said unto me, "I enjoyed re-reading the blog from May 2018."

As visitations go it wasn't an earth shaker, but I appreciated it none the less.

For those wondering what the hell I am going on about, let me explain. On Monday evening I tweeted out a link to Day 2449 of FTM from May 2018. The entry was about the unjust arrest of Tommy Robinson and also about a man from Manchester named Raymond Matimba, who went off to join ISIS. I wrote how people like Martin Rossiter might have a better understanding of the song The National Front Disco if Morrissey changed the words to make it about Raymond joining ISIS to help make 'England for the IS'. I'm glad that old Mozzer enjoyed re-reading it, and perhaps him contacting me is his way of telling me that we will be getting The National Front Disco at one of the upcoming concerts. I did ask him if this was the case, but got no reply. Remember where you read it first....or not, if it doesn't get played!

According to Our Mozzer, Morrissey was due to sing The National Front Disco in Portsmouth in July 2018, but the concert didn't take place. I would really love to see Morrissey sing the song at Wembley next month, just so that he can 'reclaim it' - it is such a great 'story song', but fools like Rossiter have somehow convinced themselves that it is a sign of Morrissey's right-wing nationalism, which is just beyond stupidity. Next people will be claiming Morrissey is a secret drug addict based on the lyrics to Bobby, Don't You Think They Know.

In other news, Morrissey has announced that he is to play his first New York 'Club' shows in 10 years. The first will be at the Hammerstein Ballroom on March 20th and a second will be the following day in the Apollo Theater. The Hammerstein Ballroom happens to be the place where David Bowie last performed live, at a charity concert in 2006. I would love to go over to NYC for one of these shows, but unfortunately it won't be possible this time.

In other other news, the Coronavirus; which I wrote about last month, has spread across the world. Some Morrissey fans are starting to worry that Morrissey may cancel his upcoming concerts because of it. Hopefully this won't be the case, but I can definitely see it being a concern. It's hard to know which virus is worse, Corona or Haslam.

And finally, it has come to light that the former 'Royal', Harry Windsor, has been secretly using an online pessoa since 2012. He obviously nicked the idea from Morrissey, who has secretly been posting on the internet since at least 2007. I wonder if there is a WindsorsWorld blog out there somewhere. I doubt it, the MorrisseysWorld blog remains unique.

Monday March 2nd 2020 - Day 3093 Cavalieros of the world, unite and don't give a shit

Coronavirus is now becoming a major concern, and Governments in countries such as France are banning indoor gatherings of over 5,000. It is now a genuine worry amongst Morrissey fans that his upcoming concerts might get cancelled.

You might think; what with Morrissey's previous history for cancelling concerts because he's grazed a toenail, that the threat of a life threatening epidemic would cause him to call his concerts off ASAP, without waiting for any sort of Government instruction, but it would appear that the opposite is actually the case, and he is desperate for the shows to go on.

The reason I believe this is because yesterday I posted a tweet about how I personally wouldn't give a shit - due to me being cavalier - and Morrissey (as Alf Button) 'liked' it. Morrissey is a fellow cavaliero....is that actually a word?!?!

Perhaps Morrissey, having reached the ripe old age of 60, thinks fuck it, if I get this Coronavirus thingy, so be it. We've all gotta go somehow.

MORRISSEY WITH CORONA

"I'M NOT FAR RIGHT, I'M NOT FAR LEFT, I'M FAR FORWARD"

Eyes down, look in for your first numbers this time.

Morrissey returned to the stage on Friday in Leeds, and the first numbers to come out of the tour tombola were as follows:

1. You'll Be Gone
2. I Wish You Lonely
3. The Boy With The Thorn in His Side
4. Jim Jim Falls
5. At Amber
6. Morning Starship
7. Lady Willpower
8. That Joke Isn't Funny Anymore
9. Once I Saw The River Clean
10. If You Don't Like Me, Don't Look At Me
11. Munich Air Disaster 1958
12. World Peace Is None of Your Business
13. Seasick, Yet Still Docked
14. I'm Throwing My Arms Around Paris
15. Home Is A Question Mark
16. Love Is On Its Way Out
17. Back On The Chain Gang
18. Never Again Will I Be A Twin
19. I've Changed My Plea To Guilty
20. Some Say I Got Devil
21. Jack The Ripper
22. Jacky's Only Happy When She's Up On The Stage
23. Half A Person
24. Irish Blood, English Heart

To get twenty four songs is quite something, as it is usually around twenty two. The night, as usual, was full of 'nods' and 'coincidences', so let me break it down.

Morrissey entered the stage and sang an a cappella snippet of Frank Sinatra's, I've Got You Under my Skin, changing 'under' to 'all over', which was an obvious nod to the Corona virus, which is currently sweeping the world. Moz and the band then launched into You'll Be Gone, which I certainly wasn't expecting, but was delighted to see. As I have mentioned before, I believe that You'll Be Gone is the absolute perfect set opener for Morrissey, and sets up an evening perfectly. I don't even see it as a cover song - probably because A) it isn't a particularly well known song and B) It's a song that Morrissey could easily have written. I'd go as far as to suggest that by Morrissey singing this song; one of only two songs ever written by Elvis, it is Elvis living-on through Morrissey. The two become one with You'll Be Gone. Too over the top? I don't care, it's how I see it. I LOVE THIS SONG!

MORRISSEY - LEEDS MARCH 2020. PHOTO @DAVIDJMARKHAM

Morrissey obviously has a deep admiration for Elvis, and once again there was a picture of Elvis used as a backdrop during the song, and also one used as a backdrop before the show began. I am presuming it is a still from Kid Galahad.

PHOTO CURTESY OF @JAMESMLVC FROM TWITTER

The second song of the evening, I Wish You Lonely, has a double significance, but I didn't realise either significance until Our Mozzer (@alfsbutton) popped into The Wrong Arms after the Leeds show, and pointed me in the direction of TWO'coincidences' related to it. It was a very  subtle 'point' from OM, as all he did was retweet a tweet of his from December 20th which read,"Day 2201 - I Wish You Ill, or lonely. Who knows?" - a tweet reported on Day 3022 of FTM. Firstly, I think we can take it as a hint that I Wish You Lonely was going to be played on the upcoming tour, which it now has, but it is the second 'coincidence' from this tweet that is more important, and completely missed by all of us back in December.

When Morrissey initially tweeted about Day 2201, I asked him if there was any meaning to it, to which he replied, "Does anything have meaning?"For some reason (perhaps the busy Christmas period), I didn't let my inquisitive mind go searching for a meaning. If I had, I would have discovered that my Day 2201 entry - which was published in June 2017 - reported a tweet from Our Mozzer (as Morfessa) which read: "The mortal sickness of the mind and I'm never unhappy to be unkind. So I look at you and I wish you ill."This was Morrissey writing the words, "I Wish You Ill"a full FIVE MONTHS before we ever got to know that he had written a song called I Wish You Lonely! "I Wish You Ill, or lonely. Who knows?" ......WOW!

And the coincidences don't stop there. Song three at Leeds was The Boy With The Thorn in His Side, which hasn't been played live for about 7 years. On February 23rd I tweeted a list of six songs that I have never seen/heard live that I would love to hear, and the first one on my list was....The Boy With The Thorn in His Side....although as I wasn't at Leeds, it isn't really something I can add to the 'Coincidence List' unless it's played at Wembley. My fingers are now crossed.

Onto song four - the debut of Jim Jim Falls....and ANOTHER nod to our story. As soon as I heard it my jaw dropped. It is quite clearly a song about false victimhood - a subject Our Mozzer wrote about on his blog back in December 2016, which I interpreted to be about the attention seeking former BRS member, Merry-Anne. Lyrics on Jim Jim Falls include, "If you're gonna jump, then jump, don't think about it, if you're gonna run home and cry, then don't waste my time, if you're gonna kill yourself, then to save face, just kill yourself." Hard hitting stuff. I took to Twitter as soon as I had heard the song, and tweeted, "Love it! It's a song for Merry-Anne!" My tweet was 'liked' by OM - how lovely that he comes to The Wrong Arms straight after a show....although he didn't interact with anyone.

The backdrop to Jim Jim Falls is a photograph of a man and woman in a car - 1950s era. I don't know if it's a still from a film, but 'coincidentally', the woman looks incredibly similar to Merry-Anne, and is quite possibly wearing a dress with roses on.....it's all in the detail.

No doubt I will now receive a whole new load of abuse from Merry-Anne and her online friends, yet again accusing me of bullying her. She'll probably even accuse me of writing the song!

MORRISSEY DEBUTING JIM JIM FALLS IN LEEDS MARCH 2020

The fifth song in Leeds was another pleasant surprise - the first playing in eighteen years of the 1990 b side, At Amber. I can't pretend that it is a particular favourite of mine, but obscure b sides are always welcome in a set. The backdrop used is a photo of the character Raymonde (Arletty) from the 1938 Marcel Carné film, Hotel du Nord.

The sixth and seventh songs were Morning Starship and Lady Willpower, followed by the wonderful, wonderful That Joke Isn't Funny Anymore - the best Number 49 the UK Charts has ever seen. And then it was time for the debut of another new song - Once I Saw The River Clean. This is a personal and nostalgic song, which sees Morrissey singing about a thirteen year old him going to the shops with his grandmother in Ireland - her with her 20p to buy twenty Player's No.10 and Mozzer with his 45p to buy Metal Guru. He refers to his gran as a 'Dublin dancer'. A violin is used to give the song an Irish touch, whilst the backdrop picture is of a young Steven. During the singing of it in Leeds, Morrissey tucked his hand inside his jacket - a masonic sign that he would sometimes do during the MorrisseysWorld blog days.

Songs 10 to 15 at Leeds were all set regulars from recent times: If You Don't Like Me, Don't Look At MeMunich Air Disaster 1958World Peace Is None of Your BusinessSeasick, Yet Still Docked, I'm Throwing My Arms Around Paris and Home Is A Question Mark. Prior to singing World Peace, Morrissey thanked the audience for coming, and wittingly added, "I know that to leave your house these days is a terrible risk, but, but, but...it really always was."
There was no mention before Munich Air Disaster 1958 of 'The Hero of Munich', Harry Gregg, who died recently, but I would imagine the song has been kept in the set as a nod to Gregg.

HARRY GREGG

Next up was Love Is On Its Way Out, which Morrissey introduced to the audience by informing them it had been ignored by British radio, wittingly adding, "I'll sing it now, and you'll probably see why."

Song seventeen was the crowd pleasing, Back On The Chain Gang, followed by Never Again Will I Be A Twin, which I witnessed at Forest Hills - a great song live. Morrissey proceeded the singing of NAWIBAT by pretending to cough, and wafting it towards the audience - I guess his thinking is, if he's got the Corona virus, he may as well share it. Ever generous.

The next song was the wonderful I've Changed My Plea To Guilty, which I still haven't ever seen live. Once again my fingers are firmly crossed for this coming Saturday. Coincidentally, I tweeted a link to this song last Wednesday, so I'll add it to the 'Coincidence list', although in fairness it was played a bit last year.

Song number twenty I have seen live, and it's mesmerising - Some Say I Got Devil. It was the fifth cover song of the night in Leeds, but I for one have no complaints at hearing Moz sing covers when they are as good as the ones he does.

Following Devil Morrissey tried to interact with someone in the audience, but I have no idea what the person was trying to convey, and nor did Moz. M ended up referencing Queenie's Castle....for no apparent reason.

The haunting Jack The Ripper  was then played. It is a song which has been in the set for quite a while now, although just like Every Day Is Like Sunday, I don't think I will ever tire of it...in fact I would go as far as to say Jack The Ripper was quite possibly the song of the night in Leeds - Moz gave it EVERYTHING. For the record, EDILS was conspicuous by its absence in Leeds.

The final song before the encore was Jacky's Only Happy When She's Up On The Stage, which is another song that I can add to my 'coincidence list' as on Feb 28th I posted the song on Twitter with the words, "Just one week until Morrissey is back where he belongs".

Prior to the two encore songs, Morrissey handed a signed copy of I Am Not A Dog On A Chain to a regular front-rower called Douglas, and then thanked the audience with the message, "Perversity is our strength" - always the wag, our Moz.

The final two songs were Half A Person and Irish Blood, English Heart. Half A Person hadn't been sung in twenty years, and BRS member, Wolf (@wolf66_m) contacted me early yesterday morning on Twitter to point out that it was yet another 'coincidence' for our list. He had to explain it to me, as I hadn't seen the connection. Back on January 8th, when the iconic KOKO club in Camden burnt down, Our Mozzer tweeted, "Nobody cared when my seminal quiff was engulfed in the Yankee Candle incident. 2009 was simply horrific."
The candle that OM was referring to was the one sold by Black Sheep (not Yankee), which went by the name of.....Half a Person!

During IBEH, Morrissey not only tossed his shirt into the crowd; which resulted in a number of scraps, but he also tossed the plaid jacket which he has worn many times on stage - perhaps he's gotten tired of it. I look forward to seeing if IBEH can extend its lead at the top of my own personal watched list this coming Saturday.

Other points of interest from the Leeds concert:

A) For Britain leader, Anne-Marie Waters was in attendance - I would imagine by invitation from Moz

B) BRS member, Dan Birch (@danbirch1) wore a blue rose on the front row, and tossed it to Morrissey during the encore - it was ignored (see here at 54 seconds in)

C) Despite the naysayers, Leeds was busy

PHOTO CURTESY OF ALEX JOANNIDES

D) There is NO D.

In other news, Mancladmozfan has been spotted stalking Morrissey in Manchester city centre. The restraining order doesn't appear to be working.

I sent old Mozzer a DM via Twitter after the concert applauding him. He replied in the early hours of yesterday morning with, "Well, it was a privilege." He then added, "I look to Cologne."

Despite some places being in lock-down due to the coronavirus, Cologne isn't, so the concert tonight is going ahead. The UK Govt have also announced today that although there are now 319 known cases in the UK, we too are not subject to concerts or sporting events being cancelled, so I can go to Fratton Park tomorrow night, and more importantly, Wembley Arena on Saturday. However, the French health minister last night announced that France was banning events with more than 1,000 people, so I presume Morrissey's concert scheduled for Wednesday night in Paris won't go ahead. Back on January 17th, OM had tweeted that the date in Paris "does not work for me" - had he foreseen the coronavirus outbreak? Is he a witch? Well, let's face it, he's been called everything else.

Wednesday March 11th 2020 - Day 3102 "Rats, rats, rats, rats, rats, rats, rats, rats....."

The Coronavirus continues to make its way rapidly around the world, but thankfully Monday's Morrissey concert in Cologne took place, and from the footage I have seen, it was another belter.

COLOGNE MARCH 2020 - PHOTO JAY JOANNIDES

Following on from me (again) waxing lyrical on Monday about You'll Be Gone being the perfect set opener, it was left out completely in Köln and replaced with How Soon Is Now (proceeded by an a cappella snippet of Wooden Heart/Head). The only other song change was Wedding Bell Blues replacing The Boy With The Thorn In His Side, which I am desperately hoping is just a temporary measure as I really, really, really would like to see TBWTTIHS played at Wembley.

And now for some more delusional nonsense from me.....I believe that Morrissey has given me another nod! *Numerous eyes roll* Let me explain.
So, it transpires that the pre-concert videos shown in Cologne included a clip from the 1931 film, Dracula, which has the character, Renfield describing a scene of, "rats, rats, rats"

RENFIELD DESCRIBES RATS...THOUSANDS OF THEM

The person who drew my attention to the 'Rats' clip was our old friend, Boozey Kerry, who posted about it in the comments section of Monday's FTM at 8.34pm(Cologne time), whilst at the concert. But the 'Rats' nod/coincidence doesn't end there. I shall let Kerry describe it in her own words, words which she posted on FTM yesterday morning:

"Not sure if you've seen any footage of Jack the Stripper, but Moz seemed to come over to the side where Dave and I had crept/pushed forward to, and then looked over and started shouting, "rats, rats, rats". Could it possibly be that Morrissey had read Kezza's comment on FTM, and then addressed her, or is the Dracula clip and Moz shouting 'Rats, Rats, Rats' just more delusion? Here is what another of our old friends, Merry-Anne tweeted, "I really don't understand why a grown man in his 50's (is) claiming famous people are sending him secret signs. It's really bloody creepy." So there we have it - Morrissey definitely ISN'T giving signs, and I'm creepy for believing it. It's funny how Merry-Anne also believed that Morrissey was giving signs up until the point he happened to write something that she didn't like....but that didn't make her creepy for believing it, that was different.

PHOTO CURTESY OF KERRY

But the coincidences don't end there. Kerry's comment of yesterday on Monday's FTM also contained these words:

"Had a brilliant night last night. I think it was the best Morrissey concert I've been to."

Just a couple of hours after Kerry's comment was posted, the following was written on Morrissey Central:

"Morrissey has described the Cologne concert as "the most enjoyable concert of my life""......ANOTHER coincidence, and a nod to Kerry....who joins me in the 'Creep Club'.

The message on Morrissey Central was posted not by Morrissey, which is the norm, but by a, Valerie Pearson, whoever she may be. Is she real? Is it an anagram?

But the coincidences still don't end there. There's more. According to Kerry's comment of yesterday, Morrissey also shouted out, "Bitte, Bitte, Bitte" or "Bitter, Bitter, Bitter", which we are taking to believe was a nod to 'Bitter Bobby Neville', just as Moz nodded to Bitter Bobby back in 2015. What Moz wasn't to know, was that Bitter Bob wasn't actually in the audience in Cologne as he was in bed ill - I hope it isn't Coronavirus, although even if it is, he won't die....probably.

During the Cologne concert Morrissey announced that the concert scheduled for this evening in Paris has been cancelled due to the Coronavirus, or "Miley Cyrus" as he wittingly called it. He added that the London concert on Saturday is going ahead as London is "Miley free". In truth, Saturday's concert really ought to be cancelled; as should all other mass gatherings in the UK, but as our Government are being their usual inept self, they haven't yet banned large events. So, reckless as it may be, and irresponsible as it may be, on Saturday I shall head to Wembley, where I hope to find a Mozzer, being just as reckless and irresponsible as me. Caution and sensible measure can start next week.

Donald Trump has banned Morrissey, Boris Johnson is considering banning Morrissey....and all because of Miley Cyrus!

No, this isn't another of my delusional blog entries, the above is all true. To be fair to old Donald, he hasn't personally singled out Morrissey for a ban. Due to the spread of the Coronavirus (or Miley Cyrus as Morrissey has nicknamed it), Trump has banned anyone from the Schengen region of Europe flying to the USA....and anyone who has visited the region in the past 14 days, which Morrissey and his band have - Cologne, so much to answer for. That means that the two Morrissey concerts scheduled for next weekend in NYC won't now be able to go ahead.

Boris Johnson is chairing a special cabinet meeting this afternoon to decide whether or not to ban mass gatherings of people in the UK, which will, of course, include concerts - the Wembley concert scheduled for Saturday is hanging by a thread. We are in the hands of Boris Johnson.

Personally, I believe that the UK should ban all mass gatherings with immediate effect, but irresponsible and selfish as it may be, I am desperately hoping that our incompetent Govt delays such bans until after Saturday.

We wait with bated breath...which hopefully doesn't contain the virus.

Tomorrow I shall return with The Wrong Arms Chart.

Wem_ber_lee, Wem_ber_lee, We're the famous BRS and we're going to Wem_ber_lee.

Good old Boris Johnson has taken the decision NOT to ban mass public gatherings at this time, and so tomorrow I will be heading to Wembley Arena to see Morrissey - happy days are here again...until Miley Cyrus strikes us all down, but I've stocked up on paracetamol, so I'll be OK....maybe.

Yesterday I wrote that I believed the responsible thing for out Government to do would be to ban mass gatherings, but having seen the advice given by Patrick Vallance, the UK's Chief Scientific Adviser, my belief has changed. Despite many countries having gone into lockdown, Vallance has advise Johnson that the best thing to do is carry on as normal and allow large numbers of the population to catch Coronavirus so that we create "herd immunity". The virus isn't going to go away, so there is absolutely no point shutting the country down for two or three weeks because all that will happen is that everyone will catch the virus after the lockdown, and we'll need to go into....lockdown!

SIR PATRICK VALLANCE - EITHER A SWITCHED-ON COOKIE, OR HE HAS A TICKET FOR MORRISSEY AT WEMBLEY ARENA

The footballing authorities in England have decided to call all games off for three weeks from today, but this seems a ridiculous decision to me and it also seems ridiculous to be isolating players, the clubs should be trying to expose the players to the virus.

It is the elderly who are most at risk to death, whilst the vast majority of us will experience something similar to the common cold or flu. Last night I telephoned my elderly parents and asked that they stay indoors for the foreseeable future. I explained that I won't be visiting and suggested that they don't let anyone else visit. I have offered to get food delivered. As to whether or not they heed the advice, I don't know, but at least I've tried. I gave the same advice to a 75 year old friend who called in to see me yesterday, but he told me that life was for living, not sitting indoors. I explained to George that he might not have much life left to live if he didn't take precaution, but I know it fell on deaf ears.

In other news, Boozey Kerry has discovered the real identity of Valerie Pearson; the person who signed off the message on Morrissey Central on Tuesday. Kerry; who is a proper Miss Marple, sent me a message via Twitter yesterday to state that she thought Valerie Pearson was an anagram, and she had come up with 'Elvis a rare open'. She put it to Our Mozzer that it was an Elvis anagram and he replied to her that she was correct. He then sent me a message asking, "Have you made the anagram yet?" I replied that I hadn't, but as Kerry had tipped me off that Elvis was correct, I soon came up with what I believe to be the correct answer....ELVIS AARON PEER. Genius.

And whilst I am on the subject of Elvis, I have discovered via Erica on Twitter that the new stage backdrop photo of Elvis is titled Love Me Tender, and isn't a still from Kid Galahad as I had previously presumed.

I have also learnt that the backdrop being used during Jim Jim Falls is a photo that appeared on Morrissey Central in January of the late Edd 'Kookie' Byrnes.

And now for the Wrong Arms Chart. The fact that I Wish You Lonely could only reach Number 11 despite the HUGE related 'coincidence' associated to it, just goes to show what an unbelievably good chart it is.

Sunday March 15th 2020 - Day 3106 The Fierce Last Stand Of All I Am - Part 1: The Boat/Train/Road To Wembley

The world is in lockdown due to the Coronavirus. All mass gatherings in the UK will be banned this week. Even prior to the Government ban, many artists and promoters had already taken it upon themselves to cancel concerts. Nobody was going anywhere on Saturday night....apart from the 8,000 Morrissey fans heading to Wembley Arena. The irony that Morrissey was the last man standing was wasted on nobody, but Morrissey has NEVER been one to do what everyone else is doing, so here he was giving the concert of defiance....The fierce last stand of all I am.

MORRISSEY - WEMBLEY. PHOTO BY ME

For me, the journey to Wembley started at 11.15 on Saturday morning when my old Morrissey mate, Spud, picked me up and we headed up the pier. A short boat trip and we arrived in Portsmouth, which for those who aren't in the know, is by far the greatest city the world has ever seen....or something. As we waited for the cattle train at Portsmouth Harbour station, Spud spotted a poster advertising the new Morrissey LP. I decided to take a photo, but there was an elderly lady sat in front of it, so I asked her if she minded me taking a photo. She didn't mind, but rather than move out of the way, she posed for the snap. With Coronavirus sweeping the nation, and with the elderly most at risk of death, it may very well be the last ever photo of this friendly looking lady (whose name I didn't ask), but what a heavenly last photo to be in.
Coronavirus is all anyone seems to be talking about at the moment, but I was determined that today was going to be Corona free...it wasn't, but more about that as we go along.

We boarded the train - that's Spud and I, not the little old lady...although she did board the train, but that's irrelevant to this tale - and we were off....train, heave onto Euston as Mozzarella Kev wrote in the comments section of Friday's FTM....although he actually wrote 'lead' instead of 'heave', but many people make that lyrical mistake, and in my case it was Waterloo and not Euston, but let's not let the wrong London station or a wrong song lyric get in the way of a (good?) story. Kev's line from the Smiths' song, London, was going to be very relevant, but more about that later....or in Part 2 if this blog entry gets too long and waffley to be a single entry.

I settled down in my seat in a very empty train, rubbed on my bacteria hand gel, made a mental note not to touch anything and then put my wireless Apple ear phones in and pressed play on the 'Current favourites' on my Spotify App. As to why I was bothering to keep my hands clean when I was going to be spending the evening with 6,000 sweaty meatheads, I can't really explain.
I then closed my eyes and let the sounds of Moz (for there are only Moz songs in my current favourites...plus You'll Be Gone by Elvis) fill my head. When I woke, I took to Twitter and contacted Boozey Kerry to see if her and husband Dave wanted to meet up for a drink and food later. Unfortunately, Kerry reported that both she and Dave had woken up with fever and sore throats - Corona 2 Morrissey fans 0. I decided that I would send tweets from the concert to keep Kezza company.

On arrival at Waterloo Spud and I headed to The Wellington Hotel to meet Rogerio, our Uber driver. The 50 minute drive to Wembley was filled with non stop chat. Rogerio; who is Portuguese but has lived in London for 30 years, opened the conversation with the cheery line, "We're all going to die." He is convinced that the Coronavirus is set to kill us all, but by the end of the journey I had eased his fears and reassured him that we aren't all going to die at all, and that most of us are just going to get a type of flu. I did however inform him that his 94 year old father and 90 year old mother back in Portugal WOULD probably die, which I'm not sure was 100% well received, but we need to be honest about these things. As Rogerio wept, I consoled him by telling him that my 82 year old mother would also probably not make it through this thing, but if I'm honest, it didn't seem to comfort him at all - there's no helping some people! Hopefully the £2 tip I gave him was more comforting.

ONE OF THE MANY MORRISSEY FANS ARRIVING IN LONDON ON SATURDAY

On arrival at The Holiday Inn I checked in, checked out my room, pinned my blue rose badge onto one of the Morrissey t-shirts I'd bought in Forest Hills, and then headed to the bar, where I ordered a bottle of Corona - well, it had to be done.

I got talking to a Suzuki car dealership owner from Bedfordshire called Terence, who was sporting a Mexican Moz t-shirt. He was going to the concert with his 19 year old daughter and 16 year old son; both of whom have found a love for Moz via their father. Terence explained that his wife was a Barbra Streisand fan who didn't like Morrissey, so she hadn't joined them, but about 15 minutes later Terry and his kids' collective jaws hit the ground when his wife, Emma, walked into the bar - she had decided to surprise them all. It was emotional to watch as the family all hugged. A close family unit bonded by Moz. I expect, in truth, Emma probably thought her family were all about to drop dead from Corona, so she wanted to join them in this fierce last stand.

I left the hotel bar having received a message from Bitter Bobby Neville (@geniussteals) that he was in Box Park around the corner. I headed there to meet him and his cousin, Max. We ordered drinks and sat down on the benches next to a 22 year old girl from London called Charlotte and a 31 year old Romanian going by the name of Alexandra. The fact that the combined ages of these two Morrissey fans was still less than my age should have made me feel old, but it didn't. I shall never get old.

CHARLOTTE AND ALEXANDRA

The Box Park DJ played Morrissey and Smiths songs/videos as we all chatted, and Alexandra told me she was hoping that Morrissey would sing Meat is Murder and This Charming Man. I told her that I was hoping for The National Front Disco, but added that I wasn't expecting any of those three songs to be played. I was intrigued to know how these young girls had gotten into Morrissey, and Alexandra explained that a friend had played her songs at Uni, and she fell for Morrissey's poetic words. She also explained that it was Morrissey who turned her vegetarian - I wonder just how many people in the world Morrissey is responsible for abandoning their carnivorous ways?
I managed to set Alexandra up with BBN's cousin, Max, and then I headed off to the Arena.

Upon entering the arena I headed straight to the standing area. I had already seen the new 'merch' online, and there was nothing I fancied - the two shirts from Forest Hills along with the other 16 Moz shirts I have is quite enough for one wardrobe, although by the end of the concert I would be trying to blag myself a crew shirt, but more about that in Part 2 of this blog entry....it's definitely going to need two parts - I deviate away from the main topic more than Ronnie Corbett did.

The arena was already quite full when I entered, so I started to snake my way past people towards the front. The first lot of people didn't seem to mind; including Paul 'Freeyourself' Blake, who I bumped into on my way. I stopped and had a brief chat, but would see him again later in the evening, so I'll cover Paul more in Part 2. The nearer I got to the front, the more tuts and huffs I got - it's always the same.

When I got to the fifth row, I could see I wouldn't get any further, so parked up. It was a good spot, right in the centre. The couple directly behind me weren't at all happy, and told me that they had been waiting there for two hours. I was going to ask why, but I'm already hated by hundreds of Morrissey fans, so I decided against adding two more to the list by use of a one-word quip, and instead explained to them that I had been right down the front but had left the arena to go to the toilet. I added that my friends were still down the front but I couldn't now get to them - lying comes very naturally to me. I could tell they didn't believe me, and I wouldn't have done either. The looks on their faces told me they hated me and I instantly wished I'd just said, "Why?" to their original statement, which would have given me far more satisfaction.

MR AND MRS UNHAPPY - BOTTOM RIGHT OF PICTURE

Two minutes later territorial standing spots were forgotten, and the pre-show videos began. A number of them were the same as I had seen in Queens in September, but there were also some new ones. Here is what I recall:
5. Black & white clip of three men arguing about a bed. It was on the video montage when I attended the concert in Forest Hills. Someone has posted the following dialogue on Morrissey Solo, but that person didn't know where the clip is from either: "I don't wanna hurt anyone's feelings, but I'm not a queer"
8. Pop Quiz clip: "Which pop group is Morrissey the lead singer?" (immediate buzzer) "The Smiths"
9. Loudmouth by the Ramones
10. Thinking Ain't for Me by Paul Jones...who for the record, is a Pompey boy.
11. Dracula (1931) film clip: Renfield tells Van Helsing about rats (as written about by me last Wednesday)

12. Hey, Bo Diddley Live 1973 clip

And then Morrissey and the band entered the stage.

In tomorrow's exciting episode I will take you through each song, mention all of the 'coincidences', and describe how my attempt to get a crew shirt resulted in me getting something far more exciting - holy water! Stay tuned.

In my previous blog entry I wrote about my journey to Wembley on Saturday to see Morrissey in what would appear to be his last concert (because of the coronavirus outbreak) for a while. That blog entry took us to the point where Morrissey and the band entered the stage....

YOU ARE THE QUARANTINED - LOOK AT DANGER AND LAUGH OUR HEADS OFF

Moz took to the mic and went into a quite beautiful A Capella version of the Skeeter Davis song, End of the World (Ed - for the record I prefer Karen Carpenter's version to Skeeter's, to which I'm sure Morrissey would respond something like, "That tells us all we need to know about you". Anyway, enough about what I like, this is all about Morrissey, so let me get out of these brackets and back to matters in hand.).

Moz singing End Of The World was a nice humorous touch, which saw him sing, "It ended when you...aitchoo". Unfortunately he only sang a couple of lines - I'd love to hear him do the whole song - but it didn't matter because after the sneeze we were straight into....London! Yep, the train had heaved in to Euston, and all (or rather one of two people's) thoughts turned to the comment left by Mozza Kev on my blog entry of Friday, which I touched on in Part 1 of this two part blog entry. Maybe it was a genuine 'coincidence' that following Kev writing those lyrics to London on FTM Morrissey then opened with it, but London hadn't been sung live for many years, so I am adding it to our special list of 'coincidences' that aren't really coincidences at all, but nods to the 8+ year old story that we are living in.

To hear London live was very special for me, as I had never seen it live before, and it was without doubt one of the standout songs of the night. It really is a strong song - it's raucous and in your face, and the crowd loved it. Last year I listed London as one of my '35 Songs I Want To See Live Before I Die', and by the end of Saturday evening that list would be down to 32! I was in for a special night....We were ALL in for a special night - Morrissey was about to make this a night to remember...even without You'll Be Gone! "Smoke lingers 'round your fingers" - we were off.

SMOKE LINGERS 'ROUND YOUR FINGERS - MORRISSEY OPENS TO A PACKED WEMBLEY ARENA WITH LONDON (PHOTO ALEX JOANNIDES)

Following London we had I Wish You Lonely; one of the best tracks from Low In High School, and a song that again has associations to our 'story', as I wrote last week. This song has already become popular among fans, and it is sung-along-to with great gusto.

Song Number three was proceeded by Morrissey telling the audience that the new LP was out next week, and then he was into the first of the songs from I Am Not A Dog On A Chain, The album's opening track, Jim Jim Falls. From talking to fellow fans, many of us agree that this is one of our favourite Morrissey songs in years, and is a perfect album opener. Hearing/seeing it sung in the flesh showed the song to be even better than I had already realised - it's SO Mozesque. "If you're gonna kill yourself, to save face, get on with it". It's hilarious, and a great shot at all those on social media who fill everyone's timelines with false 'woe is me' Victimhood; not because they are genuinely on the brink of suicide, but because they like other people to tell them how much they're loved. We all know these people.

The fourth song of the night was something of a surprise, and a repeat for me of one of the songs from the Forest Hills set - Satan Rejected My Soul. "Call me in, haul me in, pull me in".

Next up was At Amber, which had been played at both Leeds and Cologne. It was the first time I'd seen it live, and although it's not in my Top 100 Moz songs, I enjoyed it more than I expected.

BOZ BOORER - AT AMBER

The first five songs were all from different periods of Morrissey's career, and the sixth song of the night continued the theme - Morning Starship from last year's California Son. As I have written before, it was never one of my favourite Jobriath songs, but having now heard Morrissey's version 42,654 times, it has become part of me; that's what happens with the vast majority of Moz songs, although not all of them - Tony the Pony and Pashernate Love are some way off being inducted into The Rat Hall Of Fame. Before starting Morning Starship, Morrissey invited the audience to, "breathe as heavy as you like", adding, "I can take it, I can take it".

Lady Willpower (also from California Son....as you know) followed, which pleased the crowd. California Son really is an album that the genuine fan (as opposed to the casual fan) has really taken to heart. It should have the tag line - 'The Alternative American Song book for the thinking music lover'....or something.

Following the singing of the two cover songs Morrissey told us,
"Those songs are very easy to do badly, but they're quite difficult to do well. So, don't go thinking I just stand here and shift my hair around...which I do do - I do that, but I have other uses. I don't do this for a living. I've said that before, I don't do this for a living...which is just as well!" He then introduced song eight, which was another from the new LP - Once I Saw The River Clean.

River Clean is a beautiful song, and full of very personal (to Morrissey) lyrics. A number of people I follow on Twitter have cited it as their favourite from IANADOAC, even though we haven't heard the whole album yet. Actually, the LP has been leaked onto t'internet, so some people HAVE heard it all, but I've resisted listening. I've paid for my copy/copies/streaming service, so I'll wait to listen on Friday when it's released.

Song nine was one of the songs of the night, and another for me to tick off that list of 35 - Half A Person. Prior to the concert in Leeds last week, it had been 20 years since the song had been sung live by Morrissey. It was never played live by The Smiths since being recorded in 1986. It was worth the 34 year wait. I bet all those former fans are absolutely kicking themselves now this song has reappeared in the set. Well, tough tittie to them - I blow my (corona filled?) nose at them.

Next up was a song that has been in the set for a while - If You Don't Like Me, Don't Look At Me. I never tire of hearing this song - it is not only Morrissey's message to the haters, but a message from us all. 'If you don't like Morrissey, rather than go on and on and on and on about it, FUCK OFF!'

The 'game' crowd were starting to get a little boisterous by now, and the odd scuffle took place as the more aggressive barged their way ever closer to the front; not that they were ever going to get a handshake from The Mozziah - not because of the Coronavirus, but because of the huge gap between audience and stage.

The eleventh song of the evening really thrilled the group of Man Utd fans around me, who even gave up a chant of 'United, United' as it began. The song in question was, of course, Munich Air Disaster 1958.

Song twelve....an anthem for the new(ish) millennium - World Peace Is None Of Your Business. There were a couple of lyric changes - "The NEXT time you vote, DON'T repeat the process".

We were now halfway through, but there was to be NO interval and NO usherettes serving vegan Magnums; which if you haven't tried, you MUST!

The thirteenth song of the evening was the sad song, Seasick, Yet Still Docked. It's another of those songs that one could never tire of hearing, especially live.

Next up, Morrissey introduced a new song....Man loses leg in woodchopper. The crowd went very quiet before Morrissey announced, "It was joke"...and then we got I'm Throwing My Arms Around Paris.

MAN LOSES LEG IN WOODCHOPPER

The fifteenth song of the evening was another newie - Love is On Its Way Out, and for first time; having missed the cue in both Leeds and Cologne, Morrissey managed to sing the first 'Love'. It was another great song to witness live and the audience certainly appreciated it. At the conclusion of the song Morrissey said to his adoring fans, "Thank God for Youtube, otherwise you would never hear these songs. Nothing's changed, Nothing's changed."

THE CROWD AROUND ME DURING LOVE IS ON ITS WAY OUT

Back On The Chain Gang came next, and it received one of the best receptions of the night - the audience had cranked themselves up a gear. Despite Chrissie Hynde's original being very good, like Morrissey manages to do with so many other songs that he covers, Chain Gang has been taken to a whole new level.

And then it was time for the intro music from In Your Lap, which never actually materialises into the actual song being sung, but always leads into something special, and on this occasion it was EXTRA special - another of those on that Top 35 list of mine, and my absolute highlight of the whole evening....I've Changed My Plea To Guilty.  I even whooped as it started, and I am NOT a whooper by nature. It turned out to be everything I could ever want it to be. Poetry, pure poetry.

The mellow mood continued with song number eighteen - the song from Low In High School that I reckon most fans would choose as their favourite....Home is a Question Mark. This became the third time that I'd seen this song live (after Brighton& the Palladium ("I live on") in 2018), and I once again thoroughly enjoyed it.

Never Again Will I Be A Twin came next, and as I have written before, it works really well live, thanks in no small measure to Morrissey's incredibly tight band.

DRUMMER MATT WALKER (HOLDING DRUM STICKS; ONE OF WHICH WOULD LATER BECOME MINE...MORE ABOUT THAT LATER) AND JESSE TOBIAS. AND NOTE THAT SMALL BOTTLE OF VOLVIC IN FRONT OF MATT'S DRUM KIT, IT CONTAINS THE TITLE TO THIS BLOG ENTRY...MORE ABOUT THAT LATER TOO.

The twentieth song of the evening was another of my highlights - Some Say I Got Devil. When I witnessed this song live for the first time, back in September at Forest Hills, it mesmerised me, so much so that I chose it as my song of the night that night. It really is something quite special.

Having had a few slow numbers, the crowd were now ready for a bop, and so when Wedding Bell Blues started up, it was met with a roar, and was very well received by one and all. When the song finished, Morrissey said to the audience, "Whether you love me supremely, or you love me, let's say, physically, or, let's say, not at all....I don't care."

The final song of the main set was Jacky's Only Happy When She's Up On The Stage; a song which last week I claimed for our 'coincidence' list. The crowd absolutely loved it, especially when it came to the chant of, "Exit, Exit". We really are in Scene Six at the moment - this country is making us all sick.

"EXIT, EXIT, EVERYBODY'S HEADING FOR THE EXIT"

Following Morrissey's exit from the stage, the obligatory chant of, "Morr_ee_see, Morr_ee_see, Morr_ee_see" went up, and it wasn't long until Mozzer and the band returned, this time with Morrissey wearing that beautiful sparkly green jacket that he first wore at Forest Hills - there were no sign of the trousers this time. Morrissey thanked his crew and then said to the crowd, "I love you and nothing will ever change that" before heading into the first encore song, Irish Blood, English Heart. As I wrote back in September, this song ALWAYS gets played when I go to see Morrissey live, and I am absolutely convinced it will be played at every concert I go to in the future. It's just as well I like it.

And so to the final song of the night - Jack The Ripper. So impressed by it as the finale song in Cologne, that I made it Number 1 in last week's Wrong Arms Chart, and it's going to be a contender this week too - especially as once again Morrissey added into the song the, "Rats, Rats, Rats" quote from Dracula. The song concluded with a second round of "Rats" quotes, and my ego allows me to think that Morrissey was aiming it directly at me...although he wasn't standing quite in front of me at the time, but that might be because he's as blind as a bat! Who knows what he can and can't see up there on the stage - I knew I should've taken an inflatable red rose as a marker. And on the subject of red roses, Morrissey once again wore his red rose badge, which I am convinced he sees as his very own BRS badge.

To my surprise, not only did Mozzer launch his shirt into the crowd (nothing surprising there) during the final song, but he also threw them his sparkly green jacket! What on earth will the trousers do with themselves now? Moz and the band left the stage, but the house lights didn't come up straight away, and when I saw our old friend, Jay Joannides put the mic back on the mic stand, I thought we might just be in for a second encore....would it be The National Front Disco? Would it be Still Ill as requested by Bitter Bobby Neville? Would Marcus Markou's son get his wish of There Is A Light? Would I get my other request of The Boy With The Thorn In His Side? Would Alexandra the Romanian (see previous blog entry) get her desired Meat Is Murder or This Charming Man? The answer was....the house lights eventually came up, and it was all over - time to leave Morrissey's World and return to the worry of coronavirus.

IT'S OVER

It was as good a concert as I have ever been to - right up there with the last two I'd seen at the London Palladium in 2018 and Forest Hills in 2019. I witnessed SEVEN songs live for the very first time, which is incredible seeing as I have now seen Morrissey 22 times. I heard a few moans and groans from people who hadn't heard their particular favourite song, but these days Morrissey has over 270 genuinely mesmerising songs to choose from (plus 20 odd not so brilliant ones), so nobody will ever get all the songs they'd want - Morrissey would actually have to sing for over 24 hours solid to get them all in. It must be far easier for Niall Horan to satisfy a fanbase....although it's a bit like being satisfied by a flat can of Top Deck as opposed to a bottle of Dom Perignon.

As the crowd dispersed, and a small group fought over the green sparkly jacket, I went over to the side of the stage to say a quick hello to Jay. I asked him if he could get me a crew shirt, but he said, "I'll get you something that you'll want even more". He then headed over to the stage and picked up Morrissey's nearly empty bottle of Volvic water plus one of Matt Walker's drum sticks, and tossed them to me - I had the Mozziah's water....HOLY water! As to what I am going to do with it, goodness only knows. I can hardly put it on Ebay and flog it for thousands as I don't have any authentication. I suppose I could get it finger printed and swabbed for DNA. As it happens, I woke up in the middle of the night on Saturday with a dry mouth and nearly drank it, but thankfully I remembered just in time. Perhaps if I get the coronavirus and I feel like I am ebbing away, I shall drink it then, in the hope that the Mozziah can save me.

HOLY WATER AND HAND GEL

After the concert I headed back to The Holiday Inn, passing on the way a young Moz fan who was wearing the most amazing pair of gold boots. I complimented her on the boots, asked her name; which was Priya Paige, and asked her what her highlight song of the night was - the answer being I'm Throwing My Arms Around Paris.

PRIYA PAIGE AND HER AMAZING BOOTS

In the Foyer of The Holiday Inn; which doesn't quite have the same ring as the foyer of the Sands Hotel, a group consisting of: myself, Mozza Kev, Wiltshire Deb, Spud, Max, Bitter Bobby and Chris (who Bitter Bob had managed to pull at the concert) swapped our 'highlights of the night' and sang Morrissey songs. We were joined briefly by Morrissey 'tribute act', Paul 'Freeyourself' Blake, who certainly gets a few stares. I have often wondered if he ever genuinely gets mistaken for Morrissey, but having now met him I know the answer must be 'no', as he is only 3 foot 4 inches. Despite the fact he blocked me on Ebay, we got along fine.

WILTSHIRE DEB AND MOZZA KEV

DEB WITH PAUL

As I checked out on Sunday morning; with my holy water safely tucked in my overnight bag, I spotted yet another young Morrissey fan who stood out. She told me her name was Bethany, and her highlight song was Jack The Ripper.

And then it was time to head home - heart once again full, and with a brand new LP to look forward to on Friday.

I AM NOT A DOG ON A CHAIN POSTER - WITH THE FAMOUS SPINNAKER TOWER IN THE BACKGROUND

Thursday March 19th 2020 - Day 3110 I Am Not A Dog On A Chain....my track-by-track review

$

Tomorrow sees the release of Morrissey's seventeenth (four Smiths, thirteen solo) studio album; I Am Not A Dog On A Chain, but thanks to pre-release singles and internet leaks, I have already listened to the whole album, and am therefore in a position to give it a full track-by-track review.

So, without further ado, and without any pre-review nonsense written by so many other reviewers; which usually entails misquoting Morrissey or mentioning political parties which he has either NEVER voted for or NEVER even given support for, let me "just get on with it".

1. Jim Jim Falls - The album opener is an absolute better, which finds Morrissey in a no nonsense mood telling those who continuously cry, "woe is me" to either get on and put themselves out of their own (pretend) misery or shut the fuck up - it's a song of False Victimhood. The album version differs slightly to the live version in that, very surprisingly, it has a techno intro and further techno backbeat further into the song. It has to be the most 'Un-Moz' thing ever....but it totally works. The violins in the song work too. 'Jim Jim' is already a favourite with the concert crowd despite only having had three outings.

Killer (literally) lyric: "If you're gonna jump, then jump, don't think about it, if you're gonna run home and cry, then don't waste my time, if you're gonna kill yourself, then to save face, get on with it"

MORRISSEY AND HIS BAND PLAYING JIM JIM FALLS AT WEMBLEY ARENA MARCH 14 2020

2. Love Is On Its Way Out - Love Is On Its Way Out is a melancholic song in which Moz informs us that the concept of love is, "tired and broken down", and therefore...."on its way out". He asks if we have, "seen the headlines", "the grablines", "the nerve gas", "children crying" and "the sad rich - shooting down elephants and lions". As the song reaches the end Moz asks that before it (love) goes, "do you have the time to show me what's it like?" - this is M's version of Foreigner's, I Wanna Know What Love Is....sort of!  Morrissey also asks us to, "take time, be mine and gaze with fondness on the wrong one" - it's  SO Morrisseyesque and I  LOVE it.

Killer lyric: "Gaze with fondness on the wrong one"

FANS (INCLUDING ME) GAZE FONDLY ON THE WRONG ONE - FOREST HILLS, QUEENS SEPTEMBER 2019

3. Bobby, Don't You Think They Know? - 'Bobby'; as it is already affectionately referred to by the fans, is a duet with 1970s Motown singer, Thelma Houston, and was the lead single from the album. It is an infectiously catchy song; perfect for radio, but criminally NO major radio station has been playing it....all because Morrissey showed support for Brexit.
Not only do Morrissey's vocals work really well in harmony with Thelma's, but musically it is just so, so rich; there's organs, pianos, a great Madness-like sax, guitars and beating drums. The song also has New York style street sounds at the very beginning; which include a beeping car horn and a distant voice shouting, "Get outta here". A lot of thought went into the construction of this song and both the musicians involved and the producer, Joe Chiccarelli deserve an awful lot of credit....in fact, the work on the whole album by the musicians, producer and engineers amount to the work of true professionals who obviously 'get' Morrissey.

Street sounds, great musicianship and great production aside, it is the lyrics to 'Bobby' which are the really intriguing part of this track; which is exactly how a Morrissey song should be. We are left asking, who is ‘Bobby'?, what is he "pretending" about?, and what does, "tortured down below" mean? There are a lot of references to drugs in the song, and also a lyric which states that Bobby brings "pleasure" with whatever he "sings for us", so it is my interpretation that Bobby is, or at least was, a singer with a hidden drug habit - could it be Bobby Hatfield? If it is, then despite Morrissey and Thelma telling us, "everybody knows", this certainly wasn't the case, because Hatfield kept his drug use secret from everyone. Maybe Houston and Moz are acting as the voices in Bobby's head. Or perhaps the 'Bobby' in the song is struggling with his sexuality, which is why he is "tortured down below", but surely the torture would be in the head, not the loins, so it could be that the "below" reference is not below the hips, but below the skin...tortured in the soul. Who knows? Who even wants to know? I love the mystery of Morrissey's lyrics.
This song is an absolute banger in all senses of the word. As the kids would say....TUNE!

Killer lyric: "Oh, the pleasure you bring to us, oh, whenever you sing for us"

BOBBY HATFIELD

4. I Am Not A Dog On A Chain- Despite releasing seventeen studio albums, this is only the fifth time that the title of the LP has a song to match it*. The song itself yo-yo's from being 'light and jolly' to 'hard hitting and no nonsense'. In the 'light and jolly moments (which have me picturing Morrissey tiptoeing through a field of tulips), Moz explains to the listener that he isn't a dog on a chain; i.e restricted and controlled, but a freethinker. In the 'hard hitting and no nonsense' sections, Morrissey makes it his place to give it to us straight stating, "I see no point in being nice" - with the word 'nice' instantly reminding me of his 1988 b-side, Disappointed...."I have spent my whole life in ruins, because of people who are nice".
Killer lyric (light and jolly): "Listen out for what's not shown to you, and there you'll find the truth"
Killer lyric (hard hitting): "The words explode - fatter than fists, louder than blows, the dead are dead, ice-cold and hard, to where they can't be overcharged. They have no breath, they have no eyes, at least they won't be dying twice"

*The other four albums with a title song are: Meat is Murder, The Queen Is Dead, Maladjusted and World Peace is None of Your Business.

5. What Kind Of People Live In These Houses?it's one of those Morrissey songs where he observes/wonders at other people's lives - think Teenage Dad/Roy's Keen. Rhyming couplets are used in a similar way to The Bullfighter Dies, but this time with a country & western style accompaniment from the band . Whilst questioning who might live behind various closed doors, Mozzer enquires after his ageing Rough Trade chums (presumably Geoff Travis & others) with the line, "What rough trade strangers frail around these chambers?"
My favourite line is: "What carpet chewer lights up this sewer?" People will interpret this in different ways - a carpet chewer is globally recognised to mean someone full of rage; with the term first associated to Adolf Hitler, but in the UK it's a term given to lesbians who enjoy a bit of fanny fun....which is what I reckon dirty old Mozzer was referring to when he wrote it.
Killer lyric: The rug munching one of course.

6. Knockabout WorldKnockabout World is, in my opinion, a nod to Sir Cliff Richard's survival after being humiliated by the BBC in the most hideous of ways.

The best bit of Knockabout World is when Morrissey wails, "You're Ok by me", which is exactly how we, his fans, feel about him. The song has a 60s vibe to it, and sounds as though it would fit into a movie soundtrack. If Cilla were still alive, she would have covered Knockabout World....maybe.
Killer lyric: “You’re OK by me”

7. Darling, I Hug A Pillowin this song we return to a common theme for Morrissey - bed! His bed, dreams and pillows have all been sung about before, and on this occasion we have a song where Moz explains that he has the perfect relationship, except for the physical side. It's a nice enough song, but not one that I will instantly think of when thinking about this album, and not one of the tracks I would choose to play first. All the talk of 'darlings', 'secrets' and 'pillows' makes me think of Doris Day.

Killer lyric: "No longer keeping a secret of your secret place"

8. Once I Saw The River CleanThis is a personal and nostalgic song which sees Morrissey singing about a thirteen year old him going to the shops with his grandmother; her with her fifty-two new pence to buy twenty Player's No.10 and Mozzer with his 45p to buy Metal Guru....although for 52p in 1972, Granny would've been able to buy nearer to 60 fags. Moz refers to his gran as a 'Dublin dancer', whilst name checking a number of Manchester streets. A violin is used to give the song an Irish touch. I do like a good personal nostalgia song; with my favourite being Round Here by George Michael, but I can't see that old Mozzer would have been influenced in any way by that particular song!

Killer lyric: "Childish mind anticipates, grown-up mind consummates"

9. The Truth About Ruth - The light piano accompaniment to this song leaves me seeing it as the 'In Your Lap' song of this LP. Morrissey once again takes on the role of storyteller; just as he has done in so many of his songs - songs such as Little Man, What Now and The National Front Disco, but also Morrissey's role here is as detective, for it is he who has uncovered the truth about Ruth, and the truth is....Ruth is really the quiet and unassuming, John. As to whether John/Ruth is a secret transvestite or someone who has undergone a sex change, we aren't told, but we are told that sooner or later we'll all have calmed down about such things. Detective Morrissey throws in some subtle 'Randall & Hopkirk' style sleuth music into the song to help it along. One of my favorites of the album.

Killer lyric: "Your groin and your face, they slip right into place" plus "You know who you are, yet you have no idea."

10. The Secret Of MusicPrior to the release of this LP, my favourite album of all time has been You Are The Quarry, but even though Quarry is a masterpiece, it has a ‘skip track’, i.e a song that I skip past when listening to the album. That song on Quarry happens to be the opening track, America is Not the World - I just don’t warm to it.
The reason I have mentioned the above is because I think The Secret Of Music Will end up being my ‘skip track’ here. The song is, funnily enough, all about the music and the lyrics take a back seat; which is all well and good, but I come to Morrissey for his lyrics not his music - we have Pink Floyd or Mike Oldfield for such things. The Secret Of Music sees Morrissey singing about various musical instruments with lines such as, “No trombone or glockenspiel could ever feel the way I feel tonight”.
If you are an injector of heroin, I can imagine this being a favourite song of the album - tie your tourniquet, inject, close your eyes and let The Secret Of Music wash over you...but I'm not! Perhaps it will grow on me.

Killer lyric: No killers as such for me

11. My Hurling Days Are Done- the structure of this song reminds me of Mountjoy; the penultimate track on the 2014 LP, World Peace Is None if Your Business. In My Hurling Days are Done, Morrissey's enemy is 'time' - that 'clock on the wall' that 'makes fun of us all' from the 2005 song Ganglord has been replaced here with 'time' in general. The song is presented in such a way that you can almost feel life ticking away. A children's choir is cleverly used towards the end of the song to emphasise Morrissey's reflection on his earliest ever concept of time; which with references to mother and teddy bear, was presumably 'bed-time'.
To play the Irish ball sport of hurling, you have to be pretty fit and active, so this is Mozzer's way of telling us that; as he is no longer able to play the game, he is accepting the fact he's reached the latter years of life. Perhaps the word 'hurling' is covert for 'recording', and this is Morrissey's way of announcing his retirement from the studio. I do sincerely hope not, because on the evidence of this album; which in my opinion is quite possibly Morrissey's finest ever, he has plenty more to give. In fact, his voice has never sounded stronger.

Killer lyric: "Time, all blossoming clover, but soon it will say, "Okay son, bend over"."

I ran a 24 hour poll on Twitter to see what position in the UK Album Chart people thought 'Chain' would enter, and the results were as follows:

Number 1 - 30%
Between 2-5 - 23%
Between 6-10 - 44%
Between 10-20 - 3%

The previous 16 studio albums have resulted in the following peak chart positions: (In chronological order): 2,1,2,2,1,8,4,1,4,8,2,1,3,2,5,4. Six other (compilation and live) albums by The Smiths/Morrissey have also recorded Top 10 positions, with Best Of The Smiths Vol 1 reaching Number 1 in 1992.

'Chain' will be up against new releases from: Niall Horan, The Weeknd, Alicia Keys and Adam Lambert, whilst Paul Heaton & Jacqui Abbott are the current holders of the Number 1 position and Lewis Capaldi (Number 2) continues to sell in the bucket load. I am predicting that 'Chain' enters at Number 6, but it really does deserve to match the success of Meat is Murder, Viva Hate, The Best of The Smiths, Vauxhall & I and Ringleader of the Tormentors, and give Morrissey his sixth Number 1. Perhaps we will be pleasantly surprised.

Friday March 20th 2020 - Day 3111 Taking care of business

Our Mozzer has paid a visit to the back bar of The Wrong Arms, and has revealed to me what that bag-snatching film clip is that was shown as part of his pre-concert video montage at Leeds, Cologne and Wembley...but more about that later. First......IT'S OUT!

Yep, the dog is off its chain and is running wild around record shops and turntables. My two vinyl orders (one black, one clear) of I Am Not A Dog On A Chain have been dispatched by M Porium and I have downloaded the album on Spotify. I am tempted to pop into Reflex Records in Newcastle today to purchase the 'Indie stores only red vinyl' version of the LP, but as the coronavirus pandemic is causing a recession and my business could go bust because of it, I shall resist such an indulgence....for now, at least. If 'Dog' (or should I refer to it as 'Chain' as most others seem to be?) fails to reach Number 1 by one sale due to my lack of purchase, I shall never forgive myself....perhaps I will just nip down to that record shop.

Later today I will be making a seven hour journey home, so I shall play 'Dog' on repeat. Accompanying me on my journey will be my two sons; one who will no doubt sleep all the way home as he is exhausted having been working all hours on his university dissertation, and the other who has a fever and a dry cough...which are the symptoms of the coronavirus. Thank goodness for the new album to keep me company and keep my mind away from the imminent destruction of my health and wealth.

Whilst on the subject of the coronavirus, I am starting to believe that it is not as bad as it is being made out to be, and we may all be being played. If I; an ageing man with a heart condition don't die in the next fortnight, I will be convinced that something is afoot. However, if I DO die, then please take it seriously.

And so to Our Mozzer. On Sunday morning I sent him a DM message via Twitter to not only thank him for the wonderful 'concert of defiance' at Wembley on Saturday, but also to ask him, "Can you please tell me the name of the film that is in your pre-show video...the black & white one featuring the three men snatching a bag off each other." I didn't receive a reply until late Wednesday evening. The eventual reply read....."No."

He then added, "Journey of discovery, which is much smaller in current climates. I fear I shall be very bored."

Morrissey has used the term 'Journey of discovery' a number of times during this, er, journey of ours, and he likes us to use our initiative to find things out. He drops the breadcrumbs and we follow the trail, but these days there aren't as many MorrisseysWorlders as there once was, so I have little help putting puzzle pieces together. My usual helpers are the likes of Heather, Girl Without and Kerry, but they aren't always around.

However, despite that initial "No" and despite informing me that we are still on the journey of discovery, yesterday evening Our Mozzer sent me a Youtube link to the bag scene from the 1963 film, The Caretaker. So, there we have it. I thanked him and then went off to watch the film in its entirety, which I would highly recommend to everybody. It is British film at it's best, and the three actors in the film; Alan Bates, Donald Pleasance and Robert Shaw are marvellous. Pleasance plays a tramp, and the line of the film is delivered to him by Bates who says, "And to put the old tin lid on it, you stink from arsehole to breakfast time." I tweeted this line last night, with no explanation of what it was, and OM (@alfsbutton) 'liked' the tweet. It is obviously a favourite line of his too.

PLEASANCE AND BATES IN THE CARETAKER

Whilst searching for The Caretaker on Youtube, I also found a great little behind the scenes piece called, On Location with The Caretaker. It includes a short interview with the writer, Harold Pinter.

I thanked OM for the link to The Caretaker and he replied, "I truly spoil you with my recommendations." I also asked, "Whilst you are in such a generous giveaway mood, what WAS the film that you used for I'm Not A Man? He replied, "As you are aware my mood changes constantly."I remain none the wiser regarding that particular clip.

And now to this week's chart. There was only the one concert played, but putting the 24 songs from the Wembley concert plus the album songs into an order of preference has been near impossible to do. Wembley really was an incredible night and the new album is a masterpiece.

Sunday March 22nd 2020 - Day 3113 List of the Lives (Updated again)

$

Back in December 2017 - on Day 2380 of FTM - I wrote two lists; one comprising all the Morrissey songs that I had seen live and another with all the Morrissey songs I hadn't seen live. I updated the list in September 2019 - on Day 2924 - having seen three more concerts. Following the concert at Wembley Arena last week, and with a new LP now released, I am updating my lists.

Seven songs have been added to my 'seen live' list, which takes the total to 170 songs - eighteen of which are covers. Of the 170 songs I've seen/heard live, there are thirty five of them that I have seen/heard on four or more occasions, and as I wrote on Day 2916 of FTM, Irish Blood, English Heart seems to be played at every concert I attend - in actual fact, it's been played at 15 of the 20 solo concerts I've been to, and is the song I have seen live more than any other. As I L-O-V-E, love a chart, I have put these thirty five most seen songs into a Top 35 Chart.

There are now 142 of Morrissey's songs that I haven't seen/heard live; thirty eight of which I would really love to see/hear before I die. The figure of 142 is four more than when I last wrote this list because although at Wembley I got to witness four songs I'd never seen/heard live before, there are eleven on the new LP; of which three were played at Wembley. The '38 Before I Die' list was previously the '35 Before I Die' list, but has increased because; although I have now been able to tick three off after Wembley; London, I've Changed My Changed Plea To Guilty and Half A Person), I have HAD to add six - I Am Not A Dog On A Chain, What Kind Of People Live In These Houses, Knockabout World, The Truth About Ruth, The Secret of Music and My Hurling Days Are Done.

SONGS THAT I HAVE SEEN/HEARD LIVE:

Tuesday March 24th 2020 - Day 3115 I’ve Never Felt So Alive

At 8.30pm yesterday evening the UK Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, addressed the nation and TOLD us that we are not allowed to leave the house for the next three weeks, so that the spreading of the coronavirus known as Covid-19 can be suppressed. We had been locked down.

The reason this lockdown has come about is because the so called liberal left have been screaming for it; completely oblivious to the irony. There is nothing liberal about being told what to do by Government and the police.

I can’t quite believe the hysteria that is surrounding the outbreak of Covid-19 - everyone is literally shitting themselves, with the aforementioned lefties the worse of the lot, as they cower behind their sofas too scared to even go to the front door in case someone might breathe within 100 yards of them.

Although we are now officially locked down, there are many grey areas and loopholes, so while the lefties, the scared, the paranoid and the confused stayed in bed, I got up bright and early this morning and walked to work. The sun was shining, the sky was blue, the birdsong was clear due to the lack of traffic...although I didn’t listen to the birds for long as I popped my AirPods into my ears and soaked up I Am Not A Dog On A Chain; which incidentally, has entered the Official Midweek UK Album Chart at Number 2, selling more physical copies than The Weeknd who is at Number 1. The chances of a Top 5 spot are looking extremely promising.

My morning at the office saw me using all my cunning and knowhow to negotiate with a whole host of people as I fight to save my business in these unprecedented times. Many businesses will go under and many people will lose their jobs through all this, but I have no doubt that I will save my business and keep all my staff in employment. This past week has been a real battle, but I’ve found it invigorating. For the past few years I have felt bored and stale, but suddenly I’ve never felt so alive. I had become a millionaire before the age of 40 and from there on in life just plodded along, but now, once again, I am getting the opportunity to see what I am made of.

After a morning of wheeling and dealing I walked back home; defying Johnson’s instruction that we should all only take exercise once a day. I have since taken two more walks this afternoon and kicked a football around with my two sons - thankfully there was no sign of the exercise police. Whilst the likes of Owen Jones climb their bedsit walls, and take to their keyboards acting as the gestapo, I am living and loving life.

I should point out that I am being perfectly responsible, and haven’t come into contact with any other humans outside of my family, but I actually don’t agree with how the UK Govt, or indeed the rest of the world are going about this thing. In the main the ones dying from Covid-19 are the elderly and those with underlying health problems, so rather than isolate all 65 million of the UK population and subsequently crash the economy whilst doing so, why not isolate those at most risk, and let the rest get on with life? As people catch Covid-19 and recover, they will build up immunity. Meanwhile scientists will work on finding a vaccine. If this means isolating the elderly for a whole year, then so be it.

Ten days ago I was at the Morrissey concert at Wembley Arena with 8,000 others. Before I went I made a special point of going to see my elderly parents and explained to them that I wouldn’t see them again for at least 14 days after the concert; just in case I exposed myself to the virus - it's common sense.
Last Thursday I collected my two sons from university and found that one of them had symptoms of Covid-19. Since then we as a family have kept away from all other humans, and will continue to do so for at least another 10 days, and longer still if any of the rest of us catch the virus - it’s common sense. I look forward to going to see my parents a week on Friday....although they may not be home as they too have been defying Boris - they have been out walking twice today; keeping away from others, of course.

There are some blessings to come out of all this - if this goes on into the Summer, I won’t have to take Mrs TRB to the Michael Buble concert that we have tickets for. I just hope we’re able to go and see Dionne Warwick at the London Palladium in October. I also hope to play some cricket this summer and would quite like the football season to be completed. At least before all this kicked off, we UK based Morrissey fans managed to get to that concert at Wembley - goodness only knows how 8,000 of us managed to sneak in without the liberal lefties noticing....it must be because they’ve all turned their backs on old Mozzer.

And on the subject of Morrissey; which after all is why I write this blog...actually that’s not true, I write this blog predominantly because of ‘fake’ Morrissey/Our Mozzer, but anyway, on the subject of Morrissey, BRS member GWO (@GirlWithout) has discovered which Olivia Newton John song is featured in the background of Morrissey’s The Secret Of Music....have I previously mentioned an ONJ song featuring on The Secret Of Music? No! Well there is one, but our little group on Twitter couldn’t make out what it was. The reason we all knew it was an ONJ song was because it is mentioned on the sleeve notes of I Am Not A Dog On A Chain. Anyway, Detective GWO has discovered that the song is Long Live Love, which was the UK’s Eurovision Song Contest entry in 1974 - it came 4th.

As for Our Mozzer, he has been lurking in The Wrong Arms but not engaging; at least certainly not in the main bar. I have tried to strike up conversation with him but to no avail. The only reply to one of my questions was in the early hours of Saturday morning. I asked if Randall & Hopkirk has been an influence for The Truth About Ruth and received the reply, “No. Only you.”

And finally Esther, and finally Cyril, here is a little known fact: As of today, Elvis Presley has been dead for exactly the same number of days as he was alive (15,562).

Thursday April 2nd 2020 - Day 3124 Trick or treat?

Today is the fourteenth day since I have been within two meters of any human being outside of my family, and I have no symptoms of the coronavirus, Covid-19 - I am disease free. This means that either: A) I haven't have the coronavirus B) I am immune to the virus or C) I have had the virus and didn't even realise it. There really is NO D!

I am pretty sure that my youngest son has had the virus, but as virtually no one in the UK is being tested, it is impossible to know. The only person that I personally know who has definitely had it is an old school friend, Dominic Minghella. He had it quite badly, and ended up on a ventilator in hospital, but despite having no spleen, he didn't die, and I am still not convinced that this virus is any worse than flu in the main. Yes people are dying, but most of those; such as comedian, Eddie Large, would've died anyway.

The UK, along with most of the world, remains in lockdown - we are all watching Netflix whilst the world burns...or at least, while the world economy is wrecked. I reckon more people will die from suicide related to the economic crash than will die from Covid-19.

Anyway, enough about the old Miley Cyrus, let me move onto far more important matters, i.e. Morrissey, and even more importantly (as far as this blog is concerned), Our Mozzer.

Before I write about Our Mozzer, let me report on the chart success of I Am Not A Dog On A Chain. Last Friday it entered the Official UK Album Chart at a very impressive Number 3, making it Morrissey's twenty third Top 10 LP. It is Morrissey's eleventh Top 5 solo LP, and all thirteen solo LPs have gone Top 10. IANADOAC is also the Number 1 in the Physical Chart and Number 1 in Scotland. It should also be Number 1 in the UK Vinyl Chart, but for some unbeknown reason a six track Bowie remix EP has been allowed to count in that chart, which is ridiculous. Since his death, Bowie has become the darling of the luvvies, and I am sure they are now even rigging charts to aid him...not that they will get any recognition from him for doing it.

Dog Chain has also entered the USA Physical Chart at Number 19, which is no mean feat for a British artist - the likes of Robbie Williams would kill for such a thing. In these days of streaming, there was never any chance of the album entering the Billboard Top 200, which has absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with what people are actually spending their money on.

All in all, this album has been a HUGE success for Morrissey; even the Telegraph like it, and Billy Bragg's words of just a few weeks ago are looking nothing more than what they were - jealous bile. What was it Bragg said? Oh yes, "I wish there was a way back for him (Morrissey)". Perhaps Bragg was actually referring to himslef - he hasn't had a Top 10 album since 1991...TWENTY NINE YEAR AGO! Bragg's last album, Bridges Not Walls released in 2017 failed to chart at all. Poor Billy, he needs to start concentrating more on what is left of his own pitiful career instead of concerning himself with others.

Before I move onto Our Mozzer, I must make mention of the Morrissey Central website....it's gone! It would appear that no one has renewed the domain name. It's the equivalent of the leccy being cut off.

And so to Our Mozzer - he has promised us a treat. I wasn't going to write about this treat until it appeared, but it has now been six days since the promise was made, so I'm beginning to think it may actually be more trick than treat. Let me explain....

Last Friday evening I received the following message from OM (@alfsbutton) via Twatter:

"You. I am giving you a rare treat. You may send me five albums released at the same time as my latest masterpiece and I will review them for publication on your blog thing."

I immediately sent Moz a list of five albums and have been excitedly sat by my email 'In box' ever since. I have been hoping for either a review or a new parody piece incorporating the review. Morrissey's 'Review of the Reviewers' (2013) was one of my very favourite parody pieces. I live in hope that something will materialise....forget coronaviruses, it's the hope that kills you.

During these days of lockdown one would think that The Wrong Arms would be heaving, but in fact it has been the opposite - there is nothing going on....but the rent. How different it is from those halcyon days when Morrissey would hold court and we would all hang off his every word/tweet.

Having still not received the'treat' of the album review promised by Our Mozzer, I went into the back bar of The Arms on Saturday to give him a nudge. I found OM slumped with his head on the bar. He looked up, and so I asked about the review of the five albums that he had promised. He rolled his eyes, tutted and waved me away, telling me that he had only reviewed three songs - the euphoric mood of the previous Friday when M had entered the Chart at Number 3 had quite obviously already become a distant memory.

I took to The Wrong Arms earlier today and noticed that Our Mozzer's account had gone - the 'fake' (but actually very real) Morrissey has left the building.

And so, with no Our Mozzer/Morrissey's World to write about, and no chance of any concerts or record releases in the foreseeable future, it is time for me to go too - My Mozziahing days are done.

Sunday April 12th 2020 - Day 3134 Letters to Morrissey

With my Mozziahing days now done, I thought that some Morrissey fans who had missed the whole phenomenon of Morrissey's World might find it interesting to read about it in another place away from here, so last Tuesday I submitted a piece to the blogsite, Letters To Morrissey. The LTM blog is hosted by RivkahShifra, who I have written about on FTM a few times before.

RIVKAH SHIFRA

One of the things I particularly like about Rivkah; apart from her love of Morrissey, is that she prides herself on her passion for free speech - it is the first thing she lists in her bio on both LTM and her other blog, Little Lamb on the Hill.

The piece I submitted to Rivkah's blog was in the form of an interview; as she has been specifically requesting for Morrissey fans to submit interviews. A couple of days went by and there was no sign of my interview on LTM, and then on Thursday evening I received the following message from Rivkah:

"Hi Rat, thank you for your interview submission. I hope you might understand why I am reluctant to publish it, as you have been quite nasty to other fans, and that, I feel, is totally on par with being hateful to Morrissey himself."

WHAT? WHAT?WHAT THE FUCKING FUCK? "Hateful to Morrissey himself"? REALLY? How does that work?

Rivkah went on:

"I appreciate you have been a fan for a long time, but I really cannot alienate the fans who may perceive that by publishing your interview I somehow support the hateful things you have said about them. If you can make amends with the fans you have upset, then I may reconsider publishing your interview."

It would appear that Rivkah's passion for freedom of speech has terms and conditions.

It was quite obvious to me that Rivkah was referring solely to my 'spat' with former BRS member, Marianne, so I replied to ask if this was the case, and it turned out that it was, but bizarrely Rivkah then informed me that I hadslandered Marianne and that, "Letters to Morrissey wants no association with public slander of either Morrissey or his fans."

WHAT? WHAT?WHAT THE FUCKING FUCK?

Rivkah had actually confused slander with libel, but putting that aside, I have NEVER made a 'false statement damaging to a reputation', and for Rivkah to accuse me of such is in itself, libellous...although actually it isn't, as it was stated in private and therefore doesn't damage my reputation...not that my reputation isn't damaged beyond all repair anyway.

Rivkah's response had riled me, and so I pointed out to her that I have NEVER slandered Marianne, and that in fact Marianne isn't even her real name - it's Pat. ...she pretends to be Marianne on social media to appear more glamorous. I also reminded Rivkah that it was in fact Pat/Marianne who had been the one peddling lies & falsehoods, and not me. I then pointed out to Rivkah that I have been nothing but supportive of Rivkah and her blogs, and asked her to consider for a moment the fact that Morrissey was quite clearly a fan of FTM.

At this point, Rivkah's attitude changed. She suddenly forgot all about Marianne, and wrote to me to state:

"If you can get Morrissey to give you an endorsement that I can publish, along with your interview, then I may rethink."

Rivkah's freedom of speech terms and conditions had been ramped-up a further notch.

I wonder if the other Morrissey fans who have submitted a piece to Letters To Morrissey have had to: A) Prove that they have never fallen out with another Morrissey fan and B) Have Morrissey endorse them before their submission is even considered for publication....or is it just me that is being singled out?

I shall now give Rivkah until 2pm tomorrow (Monday) to publish my interview on her LTM blog to prove that I'm not being treated differently to anyone else.

Happy Easter....and on that subject, who can forget that Mozziah t-shirt that Morrissey produced as a nod to FTM back in 2016?

Monday April 13th 2020 - Day 3135 A dawn mist rises... and I'm interviewed

Just a few hours after I published yesterday's FTM; which was about me not being allowed to have my interview published on the Letters To Moz blog unless I had an endorsement from Morrissey, the comments section of FTM received a very unexpected and welcome visitor....Morrissey (in the guise of Dawn Mist). How apt that The Mozziah had chosen Easter Sunday to rise again.

Dawn wrote, "Would endorsement from a lighthouse keeper suffice?"

Much as though I appreciate Dawn's endorsement, I somehow don't think it will be enough for Rivkah to lift my ban; especially as she has now blocked me from Twitter. The blocking came about because I asked her to link to a single FTM blog entry that had slandered/libelled, Pat (aka Marianne aka Merry-Anne aka Spider woman aka Duck maid aka Dead Cat Society bint aka False victimhood victim). Rivkah was unable to link me to anything unlawful, and it obviously miffed her so much that she blocked me. There's nowt so queer as folk!

Anyway, seeing as Rivkah won't publish my interview on Letters To Moz, I shall publish it here:

RIVKAH: Introduce yourself.

RAT: I am Rat, or The Rat’s back (TRB), and am known in the Morrissey world for my blog, http://FollowingTheMozziah.blogspot.com.

RIVKAH: Why are you a loyal fan of Morrissey?

RAT: I fell in love with The Smiths at the age of 18, saw them in concert when I was 19 (on the Meat is Murder tour) and cried at the age of 21 when they split up...but there was never any need for tears as it wasn’t The Smiths I had been in love with after all, it was Morrissey - yes Johnny Marr’s jingly jangly guitars were very nice, but it was the genius and humour of the lyrics plus the wonderfully distinctive voice of Morrissey that made The Smiths special, and as soon as he continued as a solo artist, The Smiths were reborn.

As to why I am a ‘loyal’ fan, I guess the simple answer is because I've never had a reason not to be loyal. If Morrissey ever did or said something that really outraged or disgusted me, then perhaps I wouldn’t be loyal, but he hasn’t done so yet in the 37 years that I have been a fan, so I would be surprised if it were to happen now.

RIVKAH: What is it that resonates between you and Morrissey?

RAT: Initially the answer would have been the depth, genius and humour of the lyrics, plus the sincerity and honesty in the interviews, but since becoming a 'friend' of Morrissey; which happened after a chance online meeting; and no, it wasn’t via a dating app, there is now SO much more about Morrissey that resonates between us. Most Morrissey fans think they have a bond with him, but my bond is probably a little different to most - he treats me like some sort of serf, but in a way that has me in fits of laughter. Morrissey’s sense of humour is probably his very best trait - he's just so cutting.

RIVKAH: How has Morrissey inspired you?

RAT: Above everything else, Morrissey has reinforced to me that you should always be yourself - everyone else is already taken. Don’t ever worry about what others think of you and don’t pretend to be someone you aren’t. Look in the mirror and state, “I’ll always be true to you.” If people cannot accept you for who you are, then that is their problem, not yours.

RIVKAH: What is it about Morrissey's songs that inspire you? Strengthen you? Entertain you? Any particular song/s that have had an impact? How did it/they impact you?

RAT: To answer this question in full would be the equivalent to a dissertation. The song that really got me hooked as a fan was What Difference Does It Make, which Morrissey is now (lyrically) embarrassed by, but I wish he wouldn’t be as it was ‘of it’s time’ and is part of his make up. Death of A Disco Dancer is a song that has it all. All The Lazy Dykes makes me cry every time I listen to it. Knockabout World is as good as any pop song from the past 60 years.

RIVKAH: What cause has Morrissey inspired you to pursue? How did he inspire you? How has this changed your life?

RAT: No causes as such, but discovering Morrissey (hidden in plain sight) on the internet in 2011 inspired me to write. I started my blog as a personal outlet - I just couldn’t believe that Morrissey was writing a blog and using Twitter, and yet nobody seemed to believe it was really him, so I just started writing about it. Little did I know then that 8+ years later I would still be writing about it and that less people than ever would believe it was actually him. HOW has he managed to pull this off? HOW?

It makes me smile when I think back to those days in September 2011 when I and others first starting interacting with Morrissey on Twitter - we would all tell him how much we loved him and how he had changed our lives....and he HATED it. He made us be ourselves and treat him as we would anyone else. For some this was impossible, and they walked away. Others walked away because they just couldn’t accept that the ‘real’ Morrissey would be so normal and un-God like. It ended up with there being only about a dozen people who would actually interact with M....which made it incredibly special.

I also couldn't possibly have predicted that during this time I would form a 'friendship' with my hero, and yes, I do keep using the word 'friend' in inverted commas because I know it can't really be classed as a traditional friendship....can one be genuine friends with someone they have never met? It's more like a modern equivalent of pen pals.

I seem to have moved away from the question - writing a blog about the ‘Hidden in plain sight Morrissey’ has changed my life in that it became the epicentre of my life for a period. Following The Mozziah may one day become a book - I have Morrissey’s permission - but in reality it will probably just remain a blog on the internet, which people might one day find intriguing to read.

RIVKAH: Do you have a story about when you met him?

RAT: What does ‘meet’ actually mean? I first came into ‘contact’ with Morrissey in 2009 when I jumped on stage up the pier in Gt Yarmouth and grabbed his left knee - I was thrown out.

I shook M’s hand at Hammersmith in 2015 as I attempted to get on stage - I was thrown out.

I ‘met’ Morrissey online in 2011 and have since had many, many interactions with him.

I have never ‘met’ nor spoken to Morrissey.

RIVKAH: Do you have a story about how you discovered Morrissey?

RAT: May I recommend that you read Following The Mozziah from the very beginning. You must promise not to skip any entries as you may miss something important. The journey through Morrissey’s World really was quite mind blowing. The ‘toothbrush’ incident remains my own personal favourite, although the whole Jean Cocteau period with Mademoiselle Fifi was also very special. The concert in San Jose in 2014 was a concert for the Blue Rose Society, and when Morrissey wore a blue rose a few days later, I nearly self-combust. “I live on, I live on, I live on” at the Palladium in 2018 was also rather special. It’s all in the blog.

RIVKAH: Have you got any tattoos that are inspired by him?

RAT: No. I would love to have had Morrissey inspired tats, but it’s too late now.

Morrissey's mother and rock, Elizabeth (Betty) Dwyer has died. I will leave these words from Oscar Wilde (The Canterville Ghost), for I have no words of my own that will be of any use or comfort to anyone:

"Death must be so beautiful. To lie in the soft brown earth, with the grasses waving above one's head, and listen in silence. To have no yesterday, and no tomorrow. To forget time, to forgive life, to be at peace."

My thoughts are with Morrissey and his family and all those who were close to Elizabeth.

Oh, what a night! On the evidence of Saturday night, Morrissey should have a residency at The Hollywood Bowl. We had been warned by the man himself that the concert would be special, but I don't think anybody realised that it would be quite as special as it actually was.

Writing for Rock NYC in LA, Alyson Camus does a wonderful job of restoring faith in music journalism, and her passionate review has saved me about an hour of writing. Here is Alyson's review, along with links inserted to each of the songs; including the live debut of Days of Decision, plus a little correction by me regarding Everyday Is Like Sunday:

It was certainly not a coincidence if the LA Times published their very woke article just a few days before Morrissey’s show at the Bowl; it looked like a campaign to do some damage or at least to slow down the ticket sales. However, after attending the concert in the pool, after standing so close to the stage among his most adoring fans, I am happy to report that many people are still moved to tears when listening to Morrissey, and the expression of joy on all these faces was real. So where is the controversy? Where was the woke culture last night? It was nowhere to be found, but it jumped right back at my throat after posting a few pics on social media, I could not believe the shitstorm… There is no middle ground for Morrissey, he is either adored or hated, venerated like a god or described with the vilest insults. Last night, the love fest at the Hollywood Bowl never addressed any controversy and problematic statements that Morrissey may have made about Brexit, immigrants or Chinese people. Morrissey didn’t say too much on the subject either, just ‘I would like to remind you, be brave, speak out, it’s contagious’, and that was about it, as his most political move may have been showing photos of the yellow jackets in France during ‘I’m Throwing My Arms Around Paris’.

As I was surrounded by a forest of iPhones raised in the sky, Morrissey made a grand entrance on stage, shining in a green glittery outfit that made him look like a star, and there is no doubt that the first song, ‘You’ll Be Gone’ a Presley cover with a Latin vibe and sung in front of photos of young Elvis, made him look a new King. There was plenty of bravado in his stage moves, he was using the mic cord like a lasso, he was restlessly walking the stage from left to right, touching all the fans who were stretching their arms to reach him. Standing in the pit was truly the right way to see him, looking at his facial expressions and seeing every detail, from his tongue shaking in his mouth during a chorus, to his crazy facial grins.
I was surrounded by Latino people, and a couple on my right was especially absorbed by the show, staying very silent in comparison to the enthusiastic crowd. I saw the man weep during a song while the woman was kissing the photos she had taken with her phone, and at the moment, I thought: Does it matter what was said and rehashed in the news ad nauseam? Does any of Morrissey’s controversial views matter right now? There were only smiles, fervor, and love around me, Morrissey makes people happy and nothing else matters.
‘I am home, I am home, I am home’ screamed Morrissey just after the first song, which was received like a warm kiss by the crowd cheering at the next song, a high energy ‘Suedehead’ with plenty of sing-alongs,… but this would continue throughout the night, while Morrissey never forgot about his large Latino crowd, with a few ‘Muchos Gracias’. From the passionate ‘Irish Blood, English Heart’ to the more melancholic ‘Is It Really So Strange?’ borrowed from the Smiths’ catalog, the crowd never detached its eyes from this shiny green man.
There were a lot of covers during his set, from ‘Wedding Bell Blues’ by Laura Nyro, ‘Days of Decision’ by Phil Ochs, Some Say (I Got Devil) by Melanie – three songs he recorded for his last album, ‘California Son’ – to many equally obscure (to me) tunes, such as ‘Morning Starship’ by Jobriath, the first openly gay glam rock musician, to ‘Lady Willpower’ by the ‘60s pop band, Gary Puckett & the Union Gap, which was exulting a sort of Neil Diamond enthusiasm. And of course, there was the always excellent cover of The Pretenders, ‘Back on the Chain Gang’ with photos of a young Chrissie Hynde in the background.
With barely an interruption between the songs, Morrissey was shining like a too-close bright pulsar, getting dangerously close to the edge of the stage at times, crooning like no other on ‘World Peace is None of Your Business’ or any other title of his impressive catalog.
He got so friendly he talked about inviting someone on stage ‘to interview the band members’, at the condition that this lucky person would introduce each band member: ‘Do you know the names? He asked someone.. ‘I don’t!’. If nobody came on stage at this moment, the craziness started at the Smiths’ cover, the classic ‘Everyday is like Sunday’ that Morrissey sang with an undefeatable spirit (Ed - this is, of course an error; it's a solo song, not a Smiths song, and there were no stage invasions to this song, but Alyson is forgiven - Morrissey concerts do tend to make ones brain go fuzzy!). At this moment, people started to climb on stage to hug him under the watch of his buff security guard. But each time, it was full body contact between Morrissey and the bold fans, and I must say Morrissey seemed to enjoy this.
‘Congratulations you are still here’ joked Morrissey before his wild rendition of ‘Jack the Ripper’, he then removed his sparkling jacket and disappeared behind a screen of dark smoke with a sinister laugh. For the encore and two Smiths songs, Morrissey showed up with an elegant blue jacket barely hiding the writing on his black shirt ‘Fuck the Guardian’… But this became totally visible when he threw away his jacket in the crowd, revealing the profanity in plain view.
‘I am human and I need to be loved’ sang Morrissey during ‘How Soon is Now?’, which seemed to be an overstatement looking at the loving hysteria around me. Then, he ripped his ‘Fuck the Guardian’ shirt off and threw it in the crowd, causing a mini-riot around me. Everyone wanted a piece of it and the passion of these people was incredible and infectious, they were simply fascinated by the man and I felt part of something, part of some collective experience. This is a rare thing since very few performers achieve this level of charisma…
At the risk of starting another shitstorm, I would say Morrissey had all the rights in the world to wear a ‘Fuck the Guardian’ shirt while the newspaper is constantly dissing him. But they failed to spoil the night, as none of the fans was interested in this current rampant cancel culture, and nobody was looking at Morrissey’s flaws. On the contrary, they were embracing the depressed romanticism that has always characterized the songs of the Smiths’ ex-frontman, they were celebrating art and this long life attachment you can have to a song, a line, a piece of music. At this point, ‘Everyday is like Sunday’ barely belonged to Morrissey, it was everyone’s soul-saving anthem, it was everyone’s piece of eternity in this vast messy universe.

Alyson didn't make mention of the sublime renditions of: Yes, I Am BlindI've Changed My Plea To Guilty and I Won't Share You ;which in my opinion were (along with a couple of others) the highlight songs of the show, but just as I forgave her for her EDILS error, Alyson is also forgiven for these omissions.

Also sung, but not mentioned by Alyson were: I Wish You Lonely, Home Is A Question MarkWhy Don't You Find Out For Yourself, Never Again Will I Be A Twin and Jacky's Only Happy When She's Up On The Stage.

And now it's time for my observations and input. Let me start where I left off my previous blog entry of Friday. A plan had been made to get a t-shirt printed with a picture of Germaine Greer on it, along with the slogan, 'The News Is Dead, Boys', and then try and get it to Morrissey at the Bowl. Well, not only did Fabian 'Moz Freek00' get it made, he managed to get it to Morrissey, so we shall now wait to see if Moz wears it one day. What is more, the design made it onto the Morrissey Central website on Saturday morning....it's almost as though Morrissey sees our tweets!

The Morrissey quote from Saturday night referred to by Alyson in her view about 'speaking up' was a reflection of his words posted on Morrissey Central on Saturday morning, which in turn were a reflection of the words written in...... THE COMMENTS SECTION OF FTM BY HEATHER ON FRIDAY NIGHT!!! I shall add it to that ever growing list of coincidences.

And on the subject of coincidences, on Saturday morning I tweeted one of my photos of Morrissey dressed in the all green glittery suit that he wore at the Forest Hills concert, with the caption, 'California Son'. And what outfit did M wear on Saturday? Yep, the suit.

Other things of note from Saturday's concert:
A) Moz wore a blue badge with 'Why Bother' written on it

B) Before singing You'll Be Gone, M sang an a cappella snippet of Al Martino's, Here In My Heart, which I expect was a little nod to Al's daughter, Alison, who Morrissey met in August.

MORRISSEY & ALISON MARTINO

C) Morrissey held an after show party, at which Thelma Houston sang. She has since tweeted to express how thrilled she was to have been asked.

THELMA & LOUISE...I MEAN, MOZ - WITH JAY JOANNIDES PHOTOBOMBING

D) Morrissey wore a badge at the after show party with a red rose on it, and the inscription 'Treat People With Kindness'....his own BRS badge?

E) The merch stall sold a very limited number of LPs signed by Morrissey of some of his favourite artists. Included was Aladdin Sane by David Bowie, which includes the track Drive-In Saturday....which I just so happened to quote in my blog entry of Friday. Coincidence.

I can't think of anything more to add, other than to mention that since wearing the 'Fuck The Guardian' t-shirt, Morrissey has been trending on Twitter for the past two days - you can't keep a good man down. The Brexit-hating left wingers have gone into meltdown, including the G*ardian themselveswhilst on the other side, Leave.EU are embracing Moz, even though he only ever praised Brexit voters for being anti-establishment....Morrissey didn't actually vote leave! No one can label Morrissey, or fit him into a box, he despises both the left and the right. Morrissey remains a true punk rocker.

Tonight is the very last night of the tour - a rescheduled concert in Houston...the city in Texas, not Thelma! Will we have any treats to finish?

And so, the tour is over. Without doubt it has been one of the most successful Morrissey tours that I can remember, and I feel very lucky to have attended one of the shows.

The last concert in Houston took place on Monday, with Morrissey opening with an a cappella snippet of London, but with Euston changed to Houston. Here are some other things of note:
A) Suedehead contained the lyric change, "Why do you slum here"
B) Morrissey once again wore the blue badge with 'Why Bother' written on it
C) The set was closed with Judy is a Punk....which I have taken to be a 'coincidence',  as in my previous blog entry on Monday, I referred to Morrissey as, "A true punk rocker"

There is NO D).

MORRISSEY IN HOUSTON - PHOTO BY JAY JOANNIDES

I have now decided to take a break from both Twitter and this blog. I can see no point remaining on Twitter just to fight ill-informed fools who accuse Morrissey of whatever The G*ardian tell them to accuse Morrissey of. A General Election has just been announced for December 12th, so no doubt my Twitter timeline will be full of even more fools trying to convince me that Brexit is racist and Jeremy Corbyn is the guiding light. I just can't be bothered with such nonsense, although if Our Mozzer should return to The Wrong Arms, I will be back like a shot.

Whilst on the subject of the General Election, exactly three weeks ago I wrote how Boris Johnson would ask the EU for an extension to Brexit, would then call a General Election, and following the election would form a coalition Government with the lib Dems before calling a 2nd referendum, which will result in the UK remaining in the EU. I have been proven right about the first two parts, so we will now have to wait and see if I am right about the end result. Johnson is such an idiot that he'll probably go and win the election by mistake; which would mean he has to implement Brexit even though he doesn't want to, but I still predict that he will do just enough to not get a majority.

Before I sign off, I must make mention of a couple of other things. Firstly, I got into a bit of a spat with celebrity photographer, Kevin Cummins on Twitter yesterday, which ended up with a long debate in the DM box. I was annoyed that he had tweeted a 1991 photograph of his of Morrissey holding a Union Flag badge. I had no problem with the image, but it was the timing of the tweet - Cummins was purposely fanning the flames. I am satisfied that Cummins isn't another of the G*ardian reading, anti-Morrissey brigade, but he's certainly a provocateur.

MORRISSEY BY CUMMINS

The 'Fuck The Guardian' t-shirt that Morrissey wore at The Hollywood Bowl has certainly fired things up, and it has been revealed by G*ardian writer, Joshua Surtees (remember him?) that Morrissey's t-shirt was, at least in part, aimed at him. It transpires that Surtees was going to attend the Hollywood Bowl concert and meet Morrissey at the invitation of Morrissey's manager, Peter Katsis, but Surtees ended up not going, simply because Morrissey wouldn't grant him an interview. Surtees was only interested in earning a shilling, not finding out the truth.

And on the subject of the truth, many of the recent accusations of racism thrown at Morrissey are based solely on his support for the political party, For Britain. I have written many times on this blog that there is no evidence whatsoever to suggest that For Britain are either a racist organisation, or indeed far-right, and in fact they would appear to be on the left of the political spectrum. Today For Britain have published an 'Open Letter to the LA Times re Morrissey'. What is most interesting about the letter, is that it is written by FB's Deputy Chair, Khadija Adam, who is someone raised as a Muslim from a Pakistani background. Khadija's brilliantly worded letter explains exactly what For Britain are all about. I would encourage EVERYONE to read it.

MORRISSEY WEARING HIS FOR BRITAIN PIN ON THE JIMMY FALLON SHOW

And finally, the fact that Morrissey was been selling albums of his favourite artists (signed by him) at his concerts, has led to many people taking pot shots; although a lot of the shots have been with good humour. One such good humoured tweet came from Shed Seven, who tweeted on Monday, "What do people like to see on the merch stand at our gigs? Might do Morrissey albums signed by Shed Seven :)"

This tweet upset a few Morrissey fans, although it made me smile, probably because I happen to know that Shed Seven's lead singer, Rick Witter LOVES Morrissey - he names Moz as his second favourite frontman of all time, behind Jagger. I tweeted to let one of the angered Moz fans know that Rick is a Moz fan and that the tweet was no doubt tongue in cheek, and got a reply from......Rick! I am star struck! Rick is my second favourite frontman of all time! Here is what he tweeted to me: "I didn't even post that, but my head must be involved in a chopping block somewhere...".

RICK WITTER
